Do you have emotional triggers?
I believe we all have emotional triggers, being able to handle them and engage our mental body at the same time that the emotional body is reacting and responding is one of the steps to conscious awareness and personal growth.
It’s all very well knowing about this, but how can we best handle it when we have been triggered emotionally?
If you are an Empath or a Highly Sensitive Person, then this can be even more tricky, since you may literally have been triggered by another’s’ emotional field and not your own.
So what to do?
Step 1 – learn what it feels like in the body when you have been triggered
Learning to manage your own emotional triggers isn’t always a one-off lesson, it can be a process which takes time, like many of our steps on the spiritual path to self-awareness.
The first key for me is being able to notice my own body responses to the energy swirling around me and within me. So, in my case, when my face muscles go tight a certain way – I know I’ve been triggered, either by external events or something I have been repetitively thinking about or feeling.
This isn’t simple since it requires work on self-awareness in the body, but in my opinion is one of the keys to managing our own emotions. Once we know our personal trigger, move on to step 2.
Step 2 – Breathe, pause, regroup, find patience
So 4 actions in Step 2, but they need to work together. So when you are triggered, taking a pause is essential, taking in more oxygen even more so.
You can then access your emotional and mental bodies for information without going straight to the limbic part of your brain and reacting (usually to someone else). If you find you can’t do it in that moment, have patience, the answer may come later. Do what you can to regroup and manage yourself in the interim.
Step 3 – what is really going here?
The third step to intuiting your emotional triggers, and the reasons for them, is to be able to look at the situation or circumstance from the higher perspective. For me, this is where my work in the Akashic Records comes in so handy.
What is going on here? You may initially only be able to figure this out after an event, rather than in present time, but as you work this process more and more, you will get there! (Like I manage it all the time yet – not!).
Some energetic reasons for emotional triggers
In my opinion, most triggers are created because of damage in our emotional history, either in this life or during a Past Life.
- A misunderstanding in communication.
- Teen breakaway speak. Teens do it and in my opinion, many people have got stuck in their teen years emotionally and still express themselves that way. The wounded child will make itself known. I have a teen at home and sometimes the way I breathe or move my eyes is wrong!
- We accidentally triggered someone else’s emotional history with their actions, words or emotions (unintentionally)
- Somebody accidentally triggered our emotional history with their actions, words or emotions.
- The other person (or people) is/are a polarity responder. This is somebody who is naturally wired to view or review the opposite opinion to anyone else’s thoughts, actions or emotions.
- The other person is intentionally trying to trigger us, either because of a bad day or through narcissistic or borderline personality issues.
When it’s any or all of these, take a breath, go higher, and observe the dynamics
The lesson is in there somewhere, even if we don’t learn it until later. The real reminders are to grow ourselves as a result and realize that none of what occurred is all about us, just partly about us.
If the other party keeps repeating this behavior with intention, create some some distance between you, whether that distance is physical, emotional or spiritual.

Karmic Law of energy #1 – you can’t take from others by osmosis – without a karmic consequence!
There are many interesting concepts I receive as I regularly work with the energy of the Akashic Records, both for myself and for clients, one of the most fascinating is the concept of karmic law.
Over time I am becoming more and more aware of evidence that karmic law can really bite us in the butt, energetically speaking.
I’m sure many of us are aware of such karmic law concepts as ‘pay it forward’ and ‘what goes around comes around’, but how specifically can we become aware of deeper karmic laws, and more usefully, clear them from our energy field?
Enter Karmic Law of Energy #1.
I hope the above picture creeps you out – it should do! Karmic Law # 1
Do you like it when someone else takes your idea and presents it as their own? Probably not. Yet this old idea has been with humanity for thousands of years and many of us have repeated it in past lives and this life, well-intentioned or with bad intentions. Either way, it’s still a bad idea.
We often like and admire others as we are growing up, and want to be like them. This is a perfectly natural function of self-discovery.
For example, I sat next to a girl in class in high school who had the most amazing eyelashes and always wore mascara. I wasn’t allowed to wear mascara until a certain age but I so wanted her eyelashes! I wanted to peel them off and put them on my eyes!
We all know though, that eyelashes don’t work that way. If I had peeled them off and successfully stuck them to my eyes, after a while they would have died and fallen apart. And they weren’t really part of me, but part of someone else, so what would have been the point? And this poor unsuspecting girl would have had no eyelashes.
Yet we still entertain this very bad idea on many levels and try to take all types of energy from other people so we can have what they have, or be like them, instead of getting in touch with ourselves and who we really are at the Soul Level.
So what are the karmic consequences of taking energy from someone else?
It may be that you have copied somebodys…
- idea or invention (think Ray Kroc and McDonald’s – a great movie to check out)
- fashion style or way of being
- literally ‘suck’ energy from someone else to make yourself feel better (this is where one of the concepts of ‘vampires’ comes from)
- take other people down in public or private so that you look better
- ____________________________ put your example here.
If you are really truthful with yourself, you have done this, and so have I.
This is why we have to have all that legalese surrounding the concepts of patents, business ideas, and concepts – even spiritual approaches are often patented and copyrighted!
You may be able to rest easy in your taking, for now, but at some point, that karmic law will bite you in the the butt, as I said earlier.
The universe will let you take energy – yet that creates a vacuum, so sooner or later, you will have to give that energy back because there is a deficit. Uh-oh.
The Akashic Records and Karmic Law
When I give Soul Star Akashic Readings, part of the reading involves a Soul Story which rises up from the Records, showing the client why specific issues, circumstances or results keep occurring in their lives. It can be extremely eye-opening for the client.
For an Akashic Reader like myself, it’s also an eye-opener and a cautionary tale.
Past Life arguments and unresolved power struggles, taking of energy essentially, stick to us like glue energetically speaking for life after life.
If they are not resolved in some way, they continue to be downloaded into our personal energy field in our current human incarnation and cause us no end of troubles.
Make no bones about it, the universe knows about give and take, and when you have taken, it will ask for you to give back!
On some level, I do believe most people know this, but since so many of our bad ideas are familiar and comfortable to us, we continue to keep acting them out on a repetitive basis.
I for one am ready to give up the idea of taking just because I ‘want’ something.
I know the healthier approach is to put my own energy, ideas, and creative focus into manifesting the life that I want. Do anything else, and we are living on borrowed time, energetically speaking.

The 2017 Eclipse has caused intense spiritual changes for many
I’ve been talking to friends and colleagues face to face and online about perceived spiritual changes, spiritually speaking, since the 2017 Eclipse on Monday, 21st August.
Spiritual Changes – #1 – Lucid Dreaming
The first set of spiritual changes for some is an increase in Lucid dreaming.
To find out more about that, and if it applies to you, check out this recent post at my sister site Mom On A Spiritual Journey.
A great resource for people experiencing Lucid Dreaming, or for the dreamer who is interested in growing a lucid dreaming capability, is Carlos Casteneda’s classic Art of Dreaming by Carlos Castaneda.
I’d also recommend the Dreamer’s Dictionary by Stearn Robinson and Tom Corbett – Amazon link – Dreamer’s Dictionary. I’ve had this book for many years (since the early ’90s), it’s yellowed with age, yet gives very accurate and helpful interpretations of dream meanings which bubble up from our subconscious.
Spiritual Changes – #2 – stronger connection with Spirit Guides
Many people are noticing an uptick in Spirit Guide activity, or even an upgrade or change of Spirit Guides as part of their spiritual changes after the 2017 Eclipse.
I spent time simply enjoying the eclipse. Here in Wichita, I was not in an area of totality, yet enjoyed noticing the change of light, the shadows, and the different energetic feelings that the eclipse created for me.
Towards the end of the eclipse, I felt the need to meditate quietly, and immediately heard (clairaudiently, with the inner voice)
You have had a complete spiritual upgrade (change) of guides.
That was quite a surprise for me. I am learning about the new energetics of connecting with my guides. I can say that their volume is louder, and so is their insistence on me taking action to grow my work! Their energy is much stronger and more intense than my previous experiences.
If you are interested in creating a stronger connection with your Spirit Guides, during an Intuitive Akashic Records Reading I can help you with that work.
For a free resource and a useful book, check out my free podcast interview at Mom On A Spiritual Journey with Debra Engle, who has written an excellent book called Let Your Spirit Guides Speak: A Simple Guide for a Life of Purpose, Abundance, and Joy.
Spiritual Changes – #3 – greater awareness of connection to group consciousness and synchronicity
Here’s a picture of the leaves on my deck, which, during the Eclipse, turned into multiple eclipse shapes as the moon moved across the sun. That was definitely not something I was expecting.
At the nearest point of totality in my location, 3 dogs started barking at once!
The third set of spiritual changes I am noticing since the eclipse is a greater connection to synchronicity and being aware of spiritual signs as they occur rather than noticing them later in hindsight or retrospect.
What is synchronicity and why do people talk about it?
The concept of synchronicity was first described in this terminology by Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychologist, in the 1920s.
Carl Jung believed in the concept of a ‘collective consciousness’, putting forward to that synchronicity is the tip of an iceberg, that is, synchronistic events are the result of underlying patterns in a group network of consciousness which ties us all together.
Pretty revolutionary New Age thinking from a psychologist in the 1920s!
So for example, even while writing this post (at the part about Lucid Dreaming) a friend messaged me on Facebook – yesterday she had messaged me about an intense lucid dream she had. Sign + Synchronicity!
Let me know what spiritual changes you have noticed since the 2017 eclipse.

Psychic mediums – are you scared to go and see one?
As someone who has sensed unusual energies around me since age 3, I have often been surprised by the intense nature of public hatred and scorn directed at psychic mediums and spiritual coaches.
Psychic mediums especially seem to get a bad rap, being called anything from ‘ambulance chasers’ to charlatans, and being seen as immoral entrepreneurs who prey on the innocent, the lost and the grieving. Just check out some of the nastier comments online directed at people like John Edward and Tyler Henry.
Sure, some psychic mediums are just playing people
Now in some cases that may be true. As is true of some lawyers, dentists, sales people and of course, con artists and thieves.
Yet a lot of con artists get the star treatment in movies – Ocean’s Eleven being a prime example.
One of the latest movies in this genre which was very well made, well acted and amusing – Going In Style – told the story of three older men who decide to rob a bank because they have been maltreated during their long working lives by losing pensions they had worked hard to create through no fault of their own.
For many of us, getting back at ‘the man’ is therapeutic in many ways. And if there is a Robin Hoodesque element, so much the better.
But that is a whole other Akashic story that has continued to weave through the tapestries of our incarnated lives, here on Earth.
So why are people so scared of psychic mediums?
I used to be scared of my own awareness and sometimes wondered if I was going nuts or if I had an imbalance of some kind.
Thing is, it’s hard to attribute experiences to an imbalance or made-up information if the truth of intuitive hits can be validated.
One example of this is a story I often tell my clients, when my old business partner and I went to get partner insurance from a broker who operated out of his house, an old medieval place in Lewis, Sussex, United Kingdom.
The minute I went in the door I felt a whole story unfold about the steep back staircase. I suddenly felt like I was a woman being pushed down the stairs by my husband and falling to my death. Certainly not something I was thinking about when I went in for partner insurance! (Or…then again!!).
I asked the agent about the house and blurted out what I sensed. He went chalk pale and told me that indeed that incident was recorded about the history of the house. That, in psychic mediumship terms, is what we call ‘validation’.
These days when psychic mediums get very accurate, they can get very famous
Here are a few examples of famous psychic mediums and intuitive readers
Tyler Henry (recent – see my book review)
John Edward (great spiritual teacher – personal experience here)
Theresa Caputo – her style is definitely not mine!
James Van Praagh – see a review of his Soul’s Journey Oracle cards here
Doreen Virtue – I use her card decks regularly – see a review here
(Going back awhile) Edgar Cayce (a famous Akashic Records Reader).
People go to psychic mediums when they are grieving and in pain
Yes, it’s true, this is one of the reasons why people go to see a psychic medium, they are grieving and in pain and ultimately, they are hoping for healing and some release from their pain.
As we are becoming more astute audiences and social media watchers, I believe we will become more astute spiritual searchers too, and ultimately go to those psychic mediums and intuitives who’s abilities can be validated by personal experience.
If you are scared of psychic mediums, why is that?
Perhaps you believe that it’s against your religion.
Fair enough, then just don’t go. Being vitriolic about others who make different decisions to comfort themselves in their grief is hardly fair, however. And we all need to learn to be responsible for our own decisions in life unless we are too young, or old and infirm.
Perhaps you are scared of what you may hear, see or feel. A good psychic medium will be very gentle and be able to impart useful information in a comforting and tasteful way. Sometimes better than some doctors can manage it, sadly!
If you do feel anything during a psychic mediumship reading, you may feel body chills, cool air, goose bumps (which is energy moving), or of course, grief. And perhaps your heart opening as you let go of some emotional weight.
Now we get to the rub. Grief is awful and painful, and overwhelming and in the West, we have lost touch with how to ‘do’ it. If you were living in some regional parts of India as a 50-year-old, by now you would have seen many people get sick and die, close up. You may have even taken part in preparing a body for cremation, and have seen the cremation happen in a very basic way.
Death for many Westerners is a sanitized experience
In the West, death is much more sanitized and we have a lot less exposure time in our modern lives to death and sickness.
During the last 100 years or so this has given us less opportunity to feel, hear and sense the nature of death so that we have slackened and loosened our grieving muscles. Until something happens that we can’t avoid and death is literally staring us in the face.
And when it does, we are shocked, scared, horrified and taken down. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s perfectly natural. But in our modern Western way, we want the dream and illusion back.
The life before we met with death is neat, tidy, sanitized and relatively clean. The old diseases are dead we are told by our vaccinated selves and we are progressing to longer and healthier lives with every generation.
Now again, that particular thread is another Akashic story, but let’s get back to the case in point – why ARE people scared of psychic mediums?
In my humble opinion, people are often scared to entertain the idea of communicating with Loved Ones, because
— they don’t know how to grieve
— they are scared of feeling the energy of a Loved One who has passed
— this process reminds them too much of their own mortality
— a person may also have a lot of stuck energy related to unresolved issues with a Loved One, there is always pain involved initially in getting that energy moving
— if we believe truly in an afterlife or even previous lives, then we may be more accountable for our current actions than we would like to think.
— ghosts are scary!

How can I talk with my loved ones – when I may have no information about them?
Loved Ones who have passed – many of us have them and have wondered if it would help or comfort us to have a psychic mediumship reading.
Having met other psychic mediums, my view is that they access information psychically in a very specific way.
I’ve seen John Edward (one of my favorite psychic mediums) 3 times in large gallery readings, and in a smaller group once.
Psychic mediums generally read in a very body-based manner, so when a person has a Loved One visiting, a psychic medium can take on the body feelings of the Loved One through their Personal Energy Field, to be able to express their energy verbally, which the Loved One can no longer do, not having a body!
Who ate the goldfish?
My favorite John Edward episode on Crossing Over was when he literally went green and asked the audience “Who ate the goldfish?”.
A guy raised his hand and said he had done it to upset his little sister when he was a kid! John Edward hates fish so sensed the taste of the goldfish transmitted by the Loved One and instantly went green.
That’s how extremely physical psychic mediumship can be.
Loved Ones can come through during an Akashic Records Reading too
I sometimes have Loved Ones come through in Akashic Records Readings, and one thing I know for sure is those happenings cannot be controlled or predicted.
When visiting my husband’s grandparent’s grave, my husband’s grandma came in and wanted me to pass on messages to her daughter (my mother-in-law). My husband’s grandparents had both passed long ago, his grandad before he was born, and his grandma when he was a teenager.
I did so and the messages were very validating and comforting for her and something that only she knew about.
I was on a family holiday, so it was the last thing on my mind to give a reading, but Spirit came through anyway!
Intention helps when wishing to connect with a Loved One
Before a reading, it helps to think about your Loved One or Loved Ones and set an intention to connect with them.
It also helps not to tell the reader who you are trying to contact so that they can give you clear and validating information from Spirit because the reader has a clear mind.
It has been my personal experience that clients always get the reading that they needed, rather than the reading they believe they want or ‘should have’. So, before coming for a psychic mediumship reading, clear your mind, be open and you will receive comforting and validating messages from your Loved Ones.
